Sacred Games, Netflix’s crime thriller is based upon the 2006 novel by Vikram Chandra. It was adapted for television and produced by Varun Grover and Smita Singh. This series is the first Netflix original from India (via Business Insider). It has been a success so far and gives wide access to Indian media beyond Bollywood movies.

Sacred Games Season 3

The drama is filled with crime and follows Sartaj Singh, a Mumbai police officer (Saif Ali Khan), as he attempts to save the city from certain disasters after receiving a call from Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). It has had a positive reception overall, with an average Tomatometer score of 76% and 83% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes. There have been two seasons that have been released and are available to binge-watch. Fans are probably wondering about a third season, considering that season 2 ended with a cliffhanger.

When will season 3 premiere?

Netflix has yet to announce whether or not Sacred Games will be returning for a third series. The show could be either way considering that it has used all of Chandra’s source material. However, the second season ended with a cliffhanger, which may suggest there is more to come. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, one of the lead actors, said that he does not believe there will ever be a third season. He stated that “whatever needed to be said from Vikram Chandra’s original novel has already been spoken.” Vikram Chandra’s novel is finished and everything can be added to season 3.

Although this announcement may disappoint many viewers, it hasn’t been confirmed by Netflix yet. The streaming service has final say. Siddiqui may have been making speculations or his plans might have changed, but until Netflix makes an official announcement, there is no way to be certain.

It seems too long since the second season premiered in August 2019, so we haven’t heard anything about a third season. The global pandemic of 2020 had a major impact on all shows and films in development. This led to many delays and postponements. So, while the second season premiere was delayed, it doesn’t mean that anything is certain.

Who will make up the cast for season 3?

A season of Sacred Games would be incomplete without the two main stars, Saif Ali Khan playing Sartaj Singh as well as Nawazuddin Siddiqui portraying Ganesh Gaitonde. They are the only cast members who were credited as the main characters in both seasons. We can expect the same for the third season.

Some characters in this action-packed crime story were not as fortunate to survive the second season. Some of the deaths were shocking. Anjali Mathur, a research and analysis officer (Radhika Apte), was killed while investigating a case. Murad Malcolm (Luke Kenny). Majid Khan (Aamir Bahir) was also killed. He was shot by Shahid Khan, Ranvir Shorey, just as he was and Sartaj found the bomb. Khanna Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi), a cult leader, was also killed by Ganesh.

Some of the key characters who survived their deaths were Batya Abelman (Kalki Kolin) and Suleiman Isa (Saurabh Sachdeva), both of whom would likely return for a new season.

What is the plot of season 3?

Majid was killed by Shahid shortly after they discovered the weapon. Sartaj shot Shahid as the bomb was falling, killing him after Shahid refused the password that would unlock the bomb’s doors. Everyone accepted the bomb would detonate as time ran out — except Sartaj who tried to crack the password. Sartaj finally figured out the password — Fansided explained that it was the Radcliffe Line or the international border between India & Pakistan during the partition. The shot ends before it was revealed whether the bomb went off.

The plot of the third season will likely continue right from the end of the cliffhanger and reveal whether the password worked. If the show continues, it’s possible that the password worked and the plot would focus on the aftermath. Since the first two seasons only covered the book that it is based on, the writers of the show would be able to decide where they want to take the story.
